GIS Engineer to Huddinge Municipality

Huddinge is a growing municipality in Stockholm with proximity to both the city and nature. As an employee with us, you are an important community builder. Together, we create a sustainable society for everyone who lives, visits, and works in Huddinge.

At the Environmental and Building Permit Administration, approximately 175 employees work across 40 different professional groups. Our employees handle everything from building permits to environmental supervision, maintenance of parks and natural areas, energy and climate advice, and land surveying. Most work in Novumhuset in Flemingsberg, but we also have employees who work from locations closer to our nature and parks. The Environmental and Building Permit Administration operates on behalf of the Building Permit and Supervision Committee and the Nature and Urban Environment Committee. Additionally, the administration prepares materials for the municipal executive committee's climate and environmental committee. The municipal land surveying authority also operates within the administration on behalf of the national authority, Lantmäteriet.

The technical development in the geodata field is rapid, and we want to be part of driving it forward! We offer an exciting and varied job where you, together with a strong team, will help develop Huddinge's geodata operations as part of community development.

The Land Surveying Department is one of the six departments within the Environmental and Building Permit Administration. The department's 37 employees are divided into three units: Geodata, Measurement and Mapping, and the Municipal Land Surveying Authority. The Geodata unit, which you will belong to, is responsible for the management and further development of the municipality's geodata platform and supports and assists other operations in optimizing and increasing the use of geographic information.

Geodata issues carry significant weight within the municipality. Since 2022, there has been a Geodata Strategy adopted by the municipal council, and in 2024, Huddinge began its development towards an uninterrupted digital community building process. There are good opportunities for professional development and collaboration with colleagues within the unit, department, and the entire municipality. You will become part of a culture that is open, friendly, and inclusive.

We are located in modern and beautiful premises in Flemingsberg, just 20 minutes from Stockholm City and within walking distance from Flemingsberg station. You can easily and quickly reach us by public transport such as commuter trains, buses, or regional trains. The building has parking and a bicycle garage.

Job Responsibilities

As a GIS Engineer in Huddinge, you will contribute to the development and optimization of methods, technology, and data storage for geodata in the municipality together with your seven experienced colleagues in the field. This includes:

  • Analyzing, processing, structuring, and making geographic information accessible
  • Providing support and assistance to users and operations
  • Project managing development projects aimed at enhancing geodata management within the municipality
  • Administering and managing our databases and systems for geodata, web maps, FME, QGIS, and more

Your Profile

Requirements:

  • Completed university education with a focus on geographic IT, technical land surveying, GIS, or other experience deemed equivalent by the employer
  • Documented experience as a GIS Engineer or equivalent role
  • Experience in documenting, following up, and mapping projects and their outcomes
  • Good knowledge in the IT field
  • Genuine interest in the geodata field

It is also valuable for us if you have experience working with several of the systems used in Huddinge, such as QGIS and FME server as well as database management. As we are facing a change of web map, it is also valuable if you have experience with different types of web maps, both open source (e.g., Hajk, Origo) and licensed (e.g., CSM, ArcGIS). Additionally, it is beneficial if you have experience working with geodata in the community building process.

We consider it an advantage if you have experience in project management and development work as well as planning and conducting training in the geodata field.

Personal Qualities:

We will place great emphasis on your personal qualities. As a person, you are curious, analytical, and meticulous with good pedagogical abilities. You are organized and work in a structured and efficient manner, with the ability to prioritize and plan your work. You have a well-developed service mindset and create good relationships and trust with various target groups. You have a good ability to work independently but also value collaboration. You master the Swedish language very well and can express yourself well in both speech and writing.

Benefits

To fulfill our mission, you as an employee in Huddinge Municipality are our most important asset. Therefore, we offer a range of benefits for a sustainable work life and to ease your everyday life. http://www.huddinge.se/formaner (http://www.huddinge.se/formaner)
